JAMES FREID
CEO
In 1990, James Freid was driving an ice cream truck to pay for a study abroad trip to Papua New Guinea. His stories about the trip are legendary…just ask him. Because the team at Big Bell Ice Cream was so impressed with him, they hired James as a manager when he returned. In 1997, at the age of 27, when the opportunity arose, he purchased the street vending business from Blue Bell Ice Cream.
He changed the name to Big Bell Ice Cream. And the rest is history. James is now the CEO (Chief Eating Officer – after all, someone has to test the new products) of Big Bell Ice Cream. And once in a while, much to his enjoyment, James still gets the chance to get behind the wheel of one of our ice cream trucks and hand out happiness to kids of all ages throughout the greater Twin Cities area.
